Effect of different baits on the catch performance of bottom longline in the kampar river, Sendayan Village, Riau
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the effects of different bait types on catch performance in bottom longline fishing in the Kampar River, Sendayan Village, Riau Province. The tested baits were paweh fish (Osteochilus hasselti) and siban fish (Cyclocheilichthys apogon), two local species commonly used by traditional fishermen. The research employed an experimental fishing method conducted over seven consecutive days with two operations per day. The observed parameters included the total catch weight and the number of individuals. The results showed that siban fish bait produced significantly higher catches compared to paweh fish bait (p < 0.05). This finding provides a scientific basis for recommending siban fish as an optimal bait for bottom longline fishing, thereby enhancing local fishermen’s productivity sustainably.
