Abstract

This study aims to identify the diversity of gastropod species in Waitiu waters, East Flores Regency. Sampling was carried out in April 2023, at the lowest tide. The method used is the quadrant transect method. Samples were taken at Waitiu Beach, with a distance between transects of 50 m, line transects were drawn perpendicular to the shoreline based on the intertidal zone, namely in the highest tide zone, the highest tide boundary zone and the middle zone and lower zone. At each transect there are three sampling points or total plots, in one station there are 9 plots with a size of 1x1m2. Environmental factors measured include pH, temperature and salinity. The results showed that the quality of the waters on the Waitiu beach was good for gastropods, namely pH 7.2, temperature 28°C and salinity of 35‰. Found 338 individuals consisting of 14 families and 29 species of gastropods.  Gastropods diversity was calculated using the Shannon-Wiener index, the measurement results showed an H' value of 2.073. states that the diversity is moderate (1.0<H'<3.332).
